Way to Be Wellness and Yoga is partnering with Portland-based Wild Tide Writing Collective and Blackrock Farm in Kennebunkport to host two half-day retreats this summer.
Join us for a day of yoga, writing workshops, and renewal amongst the flowers at the lush and beautiful Blackrock Farm. Morning refreshments and a summer box lunch by Cape Porpoise Kitchen are included.
This retreat is designed for all: writers, yoga practitioners, and anyone in need of a breather. No writing or yoga experience necessary. You’ll come away with a quieter mind, calm body, and pages of inspiration, ready to be present for all that summer brings.

Blackrock Farm, 293 Goose Rocks Road, Kennebunkport, Maine
Schedule:
9:30-10 am: Arrival, welcome
10-11 am: Morning Flow Yoga
11 am-12 pm: Writing Workshop: Taking Stock
12-1 pm: Boxed picnic lunch, explore the grounds
1-2 pm: Writing Workshop: Noticing Summer’s Details
2-3 pm: Meditation, Breathwork, and Yin Yoga
3-3:30 pm: Closing and Departure
Cost:
$175 includes morning and afternoon yoga classes, two writing workshops, lunch, snacks, and refreshments
Instructors
Leslie Cargill, yoga
Leslie is the founder of Way to Be Wellness and Yoga Collaborative and works with individuals, businesses, and communities to achieve a sense of well-being through the freedom found in yoga, movement, mindfulness, and creative expression.
As a yoga teacher, Leslie focuses on each student’s unique abilities, goals and needs. She encourages students to find a yoga practice that works for them and which is sustainable. She sees yoga as life-changing and shares that insight with her students, from infants to 90-somethings, teens, toddlers, parents, complete beginners, advanced practitioners, athletes, and those dealing with physical or emotional health issues.
Annie Quigley, writing
Annie is a poet, editor, and co-founder of Wild Tide Writing Collective. By day, she is editor in chief of the design publication Remodelista, and her writing has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, Food52, and elsewhere. Her poetry has been recognized by Best New Poets and as a finalist for prizes from Fugue Journal, Frontier, and Palette Poetry, and she’s the author of the book Remodelista in Maine: A Design Lover’s Guide to Inspired, Down-to-Earth Style. Kelsey Quigley, writing
Kelsey is a writer, co-founder of Wild Tide Writing Collective, and clinical psychologist at work on her first novel. In her day job, Kelsey teaches writing and psychology at Harvard University. Her scientific research examines how our experiences become embedded in our bodies and has been published in Child Development, Developmental Review, Developmental Psychology, and Psychophysiology, among others. She lives with her partner and four semi-feral children near Portland.
FAQ
Do I need any writing or yoga experience?
Not at all. All levels, including total beginners, are welcome and encouraged.
What should I bring?
Please bring sunscreen, water, and anything else you need to feel comfortable on a summer day outside (a hat, sunglasses, etc). Note that there are bathrooms but no changing rooms on site; wear comfortable clothing suited for yoga and layers for Maine’s changeable weather are recommended.
Yoga mats and props will be provided; BYO if you prefer.
A beach chair or towel are optional but encouraged. No need to bring writing materials—we’ll provide notebooks and pens.
What if it’s raining?
Weather in Maine can be unpredictable, even in summer. This retreat will be mostly outside, so please plan accordingly . In the case of inclement weather, we’ll get in touch with a rain date.
